The European Union Foreign Policy Chief, Federica Mogherini expressed her hope for greater cooperation on EU Defence spending.

Speaking after a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister, Angelino Alfano, Mogherini said that the upcoming joint meeting with EU Foreign and Defence Ministers in Brussels would be the strategic moment to agree to strengthen Europe and agree joint investment in Defence.

Earlier, EU officials said they were encouraged by what they called U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s clear assurances that Washington was committed to defending the sovereignty and territory of European States despite earlier Remarks by President Donald Trump that the Nato Defence pact was “Obsolete.”
