Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, called for increased cooperation among countries in the region to deal with problems he blamed on the United States.
Khamenei told Qatar’s visiting, Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, that the situation in the region is inappropriate because of the “United States and its friends”, and added that the only way to deal with it is to “rely on inter-regional cooperation.”
Earlier, in a meeting with Iranian President Hassan, Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, that de-escalation and dialogue were needed to resolve regional crises at a “sensitive” time.
Sheikh Tamim also thanked Iran, with which his country shares a giant gas field, for supporting Doha by providing air and land routes after Saudi Arabia and its allies imposed a trade and transport boycott on Qatar in mid-2017.
Qatar, an ally of both the U.S. And Iran, have been at odds with other Gulf Arab states who support tighter U.S. Sanctions on Iran, as Doha has remained ready to mediate between Washington and Tehran.
