Three protesters were shot dead during a demonstration outside the Iranian Consulate in Iraq’s Holy City of Karbala.

Protesters burning tyres and chanting Iran out, Kerbala remains free.

The head of forensics department said security forces in Karbala fired live ammunition to disperse protesters trying to scale the consulate walls and set fire to it.

The attack comes a day after tens of thousands of Iraqis took to the streets of the capital demanding the downfall of the political elite in the biggest day of mass anti government demonstrations since the fall of Saddam Hussein.

At least 250 people have been killed over the past month.

The protests are regarded as the biggest wave of mass demonstrations since the fall of Saddam Hussein.
