U.S. President Donald Trump

According to media report the U.S. President Donald Trump says that he has called off talks with the Taliban about a deal to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan after a Kabul attack that left a US service member dead.

Donald Trump said in a tweet “unbeknownst to almost everyone, the major Taliban leaders and, separately, the President of Afghanistan, were going to secretly meet with me at Camp David”.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump once again tweeted that secret meetings that were to be held at Camp David with Taliban leaders and the Afghan President had been cancelled following a bombing in Kabul last week.

In his latest tweet, the U.S. President said “they were coming to the united states tonight. Unfortunately, in order to build false leverage, they admitted to an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great soldiers, and 11 other people,” Trump tweeted about the Taliban.

The US President said “I immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations”.

Kabul has been gripped by a surge in deadly violence even after the US and the insurgents reached an agreement “in principle” that would see the us pull thousands of troops from Afghanistan in return for various Taliban security promises.
