Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon visited a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh’s Cox’s Bazar on the sidelines of an international conference on climate change adaptation.

Ban Ki-moon said Bangladesh has managed disasters well in recent years and is a global leader in battling climate change, stresssing that adaptation over mitigation was key in confronting climate change issues going forward.

He also praised Bangladesh’s efforts in accommodating about 730,000 Rohingya Muslims who fled a military crackdown in Myanmar’s Rakhine state in response to militant attacks in 2017.
