U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe spoke by phone to discuss peace and stability in East Asia, ahead of trump’s meeting in Hanoi next week with North Korean leader.

Abe told the media that they spoke about issues of mutual concerns involving North Korea, including the return of Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea and the development of nuclear weapons and missile systems by Pyongyang.

They agreed to have another telephone conversation after the summit between Trump and Kim in Hanoi.
