Peter Kappel has been appointed chair of the B.C. Lottery Corporation (BCLC), the Province’s Crown corporation responsible for the conduct and management of gambling in British Columbia, under the Gaming Control Act.

Kappel joins the board of directors appointed by the B.C. government. Kappel’s one-year term as board chair begins May 31, 2018.

Kappel is the former managing director and head of securitization with DVB Bank AG in London.  Previously, he was the managing director and co-head of the securitization and transitional debt finance group with Calyon (Credit Agricole); managing director and head of European securitization group with Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein; and director and head of structured finance with Nomura International — all based in London.

Kappel is a former executive committee member of the European Securitisation Forum Bond Market Association. He holds his bachelor of arts (honours) in economics from the University of Victoria, and held his chartered accountant designation through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of B.C. He has also been a director of Partnerships BC since 2009.

Kappel replaces current chair Bud Smith. Smith joined the BCLC board in May 2012, and was named chair in August 2013. His appointment expires May 31, 2018.
