Thousands of people marched peacefully in protest against an annual Viennese ball held by the far-right freedom party, continuing a wave of demonstrations since the party’s return to government last month.
Conservative leader Sebastian Kurz reached a coalition deal with the anti-immigration party last month to bring them back into government as a junior partner and handing them control of the Defence, interior and foreign ministries, among others.
Although demonstrations have been smaller than those held when the freedom party entered government with the same party in 2000, protests held in the past two months have drawn thousands.
That protest drew roughly 20,000 people. March was smaller police put the number of protesters at 8,000 while organizers said the turnout was 10,000.
