China praised north and South Korea after the two countries announced plans to march together under the same blue-and-white Korean Peninsula flag at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

China’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Lu Kang said feelings of kinship between north and south could be seen calling on the International community to encourage more “constructive efforts” aimed at easing tensions on the peninsula.

The two countries will be hoping for some of the same sort of “Feel good factor” they enjoyed at the Olympics in 2000, when they were greeted by a standing ovation in Sydney’s Olympic stadium after marching in under the unified flag for the first time.
