A policeman and a militant from the Kurdistan workers party were killed in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir.

The local governor’s office said the incident comes a day after Turkish security forces killed 17 Kurdish militants near the border between Iraq and Southeast Turkey, armed forces said, after eight members of Turkey’s security forces were killed in clashes.

In Diyarbakir the local governor’s office said nine other policemen were wounded during a security operation against the Kurdish group in the city.

The government has been increasing operations against the militant group since the collapse of a ceasefire in 2015.
