Security was beefed up in India’s Northern Panchkula town ahead of hearing in two separate murder cases against a self-styled Indian “Godman”.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh appeared before a Panchkula court through video conferencing from a jail in Rohtak city where he was put after being sentenced to 20 years in prison in two rape cases.

The court’s hearing related to the cases of murder of a journalist and Former Chief of Singh’s social and spiritual organization, Dera Sacha Sauda. Both of them were killed in 2002.

A posse of policemen along with paramilitary soldiers were seen in Panchukula to prevent any untoward incident.

Violence had erupted last month after Singh was found guilty of raping two of his followers with over 30 deaths reported in Northern India.
