Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has accepted resignation of Defense Minister and Army Chief of Staff after more than 140 government soldiers were killed in a Taliban attack on an Army Base last week.

According to a presidential statement, Defense Minister Abdullah Habibi and Army Chief of Staff Qadam Shah Shahim have stepped down with immediate effect.

As many as 10 Taliban fighters, dressed in Afghan Army uniforms and driving military vehicles, opened fire on soldiers eating dinner and leaving a mosque after Friday prayers at a military base in Mazar-e-Sharif.
