Linda Reimer, MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam has said that “The funding that the Province has put towards affordable housing projects such as this and many others, demonstrates our government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all British Columbians, including those in Port Moody who will benefit from this project.”
Provincial funding of $5 million will bring 55 new affordable-rental homes for people with low and moderate incomes at a proposed housing development in Port Moody.
Following the September 2016 announcement of a $500-million investment in affordable rental housing, the B.C. government has selected Catalyst Community Developments Society, in partnership with St. Andrews United Church, to receive the capital funding for a housing project at 2318 St. Johns St.
BC Housing will work with the groups to fully develop the project plans and ensure the proper rezoning and consultation is considered and confirmed before construction.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2018, with completion projected for fall 2019.
