Kathleen Wynne Premier of Ontario has said that “As the daughter of a family doctor myself, I have tremendous respect for the profession and their dedication to Ontario’s patients. I value and look forward to the opportunity to return to the negotiating table to discuss how we can work together to continue to improve our health care system for everyone in Ontario.”
“Ontario’s doctors are essential to the delivery of a strong and sustainable health care sector. As we work to deliver on our mandate in health care to improve access, reduce wait times and improve the overall patient experience, we will only be stronger with a productive relationship with Ontario’s physicians.
Earlier today, the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) announced its newly appointed negotiating committee to its membership. Within the next few days, the government will also establish a new negotiating team.
Minister Hoskins and I want Ontario’s physicians to know that the government is committed to the principle of interest arbitration, and to negotiating an interest arbitration process as the first order of business when negotiations resume.
The Minister and I have discussed the next steps and, as a show of good faith, and to demonstrate our sincere commitment to trying to reach a positive outcome in these renewed negotiations, our government will not make any unilateral adjustments to physician compensation or accountabilities while discussions are taking place.”
