ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y.  U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Alexandria Bay Port Of Entry arrested two U.S. citizens after discovering a handgun and drugs in their vehicle on New Year’s Eve.

The pair had been stopped earlier by Canadian authorities after crossing the border with a handgun, and had been escorted back to the U.S. port of entry at Alexandria Bay.

On arrival at the port, the subjects were referred to secondary inspection, where CBP officers took possession of a .40-caliber pistol, extra ammunition, a large double-edged knife, a bag of marijuana, and vials with white powder residue that tested positive for cocaine.

The vials with cocaine residue, marijuana (8.62 grams), handgun and extra ammunition were seized by CBP officers. The two subjects, weapons, ammunition and drugs were turned over to New York State Police.

“We work very closely with law enforcement partners both locally and across the border,” said Area Port Director Timothy Walker. “Preventing firearms and drugs from entering our community is a vital role CBP plays in protecting our borders.”
