CHAMPLAIN, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection delivered a priceless World Trade Center artifact to Northeastern Clinton Central School for display in the library.

In honor of the 15th anniversary of 9/11, the Port of Champlain was able to obtain a piece of steel from the World Trade Center through FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro’s office in September, the result of a three-year effort. The New York City Fire Department had a small supply of WTC steel available to qualified recipients. The Port of Champlain  and Champlain received the steel due to its location in New York, its status as an international border crossing, and its solemn annual 9/11 remembrance ceremonies.

The FDNY asked that the steel be displayed in a public location and accessible for viewing and touching. The steel was welded to a portable stand for display throughout the port for travelers to have an opportunity to view and touch a piece of history.

The school was given the honor of displaying the WTC steel artifact to students, staff and faculty.  Area community members were invited to visit the school and touch a piece of history.

This historic item was displayed on December 7, in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The steel was then returned to the Champlain Port of Entry where it is kept and displayed as a constant reminder of that historical day that shook the foundation of this great country.

  1. Having read this I believed it was rather informative. I appreciate you spending some time and effort to
put this short article together. I once again find myself spending a lot of time both reading
and commenting. But so what, it was still worth it!

  2. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of.

I say to you, I definitely get irked while people think about worries that they just don’t
know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also
defined out the whole thing without having side-effects
, people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more.
