Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has said the government is actively pursuing to generate cheaper electricity and enhance water storage capacity in the country.

Addressing business community in Islamabad on Monday, he hoped that ground- breaking of Diamer-Bhasha dam would be performed next year. He said one billion dollars had been spent on the land acquisition of Diamer-Bhasha Dam.

The Minister said the government is also actively working on small dams like Kurram-Tungi and Munda dams to overcome energy shortage and provide sufficient water for drinking and irrigation purposes. He said works is also continuing on construction of small dams in Balochistan. He said the government is also looking for generating cheap electricity through alternative sources.

Ahsan Iqbal said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a great success stories of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif government. He said CPEC is a 46 billion dollars project, which will help promote economic activities in the region.
