In India the deployment of army in West Bengal state has created row between the state government and the centre. India’s Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar told the lower house of parliament that this is army’s routine exercise, being carried out since many years . Parrikar was addressing the Lok Sabha after West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool congress raised the matter during the question hour, alleging state government was kept in the dark about deployment of troops. A furious Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been at her Kolkata office since and says she will only go home when the army pulls out from toll booths across the state. Banerjee has asked “is this a military coup?” Banerjee has alleged political vendetta by the centre, with which she has clashed over the currency ban. She has led protests against the bjp-led central government’s demonetization move on the streets in national capital delhi and in other states like bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
