ASGHABAT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said, in the emerging global and regional environment Pakistan is playing its role as gateway to Central Asia.
Addressing the two-day Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Ashgabat on Saturday, he said regional connectivity and economic integration are the key pillars of Pakistan’s policy.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to regional connectivity and we are providing state of art facilities at our borders”, he said, adding that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will help integrate South Asia and it is a significant landmark in the region. We all need to work together to promote regional prosperity and Pakistan is actively promoting regional cooperation.
Prime Minister said transportation development is our priority as the 21st century demands better regional connectivity. Infrastructure development is underway through Asian Development Bank’s assistance, he added.
The Prime Minister said peaceful neighborhood has remained the norm of Pakistan`s foreign policy and no development policies can yield fruit without peace and security.
Addressing the conference, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said modern transport is helpful in stabilizing global relations at regional and national levels.
He said Turkmenistan is pursuing effective policy for developing the transport system and has presented two drafts in the General Assembly.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in his address said modern transportation is imperative for bolstering international relations and overall progress of the global community.
