In Italy, a series of earthquakes has rocked a wide area in central part of the country.

According to the US Geological Survey, the first earthquake was of 5.4 magnitude, the second 6.1 and the third 4.9 on the Richter scale.

The three quakes, which struck at intervals of two hours, caused collapse of several old structures, including a number of historic churches. A number of people were injured but there are no reports of casualties so far.
